A Tribute
From: Marsha Willard
I am sending this to all of you because I think it is unbelievable that these people have done this. They never knew any of us before the accident where Herman and 15 horses died near their town but felt the loss as though it was theirs practically. The primary one is Elaine. She is the lady who took our surviving horse home that day for me. His name is Ace. She did not know that until the following day. I found out that day her husband - who had died the year before - his name was Ace also. She has been awesome in all ways and if you have any feedback for her when you see this, please, send it to me so I can forward it to her. Cal Dika offered us his land to bury our horses on. That is where this is. Why these titles are on these pictures, I don't know but open and take a look.
Below is her note to me:
By the way the horses are buried about 300 feet behind this memorial. It is across the road from where the accident happened. The next photo I am going to take is at night, so you can see it all lit up.... Have a nice night guys, I am really tired............ Love and kisses and hugs... Elaine
In a follow up note she adds:
Hi Marsha... well it looks amazing at night also... it lites up and the horses and crosses are flying to the sky. The amount of traffic at that site is amazing. Big trucks and the drivers standing on their cabs taking photos, vehicles stop everyday, and Calvin says he can her the honking of horns. The paper printed it on the front page. You go to Central Peace Signal, and go to this weeks issue and there it is. It is on Herman Flads site on Facebook, and throughout the internet. Ellen is doing a memorial photo for Lindsay Warner for the ending of her documentary. The finishing touches are this week end. I will email you another photo ,,, So you like it., people have stopped Cal Dika on the street, phoned him, and thanked him for the burial of the horses. Each horse has a name, including Ace, and the horse without is Herman's saddle horse.... No one has touched the site, or damaged it., I don't think they would dare. What closure for Cal, and Me.. and also you... This was truly a a heart breaking memorial, Cal and I did cry a few tears, but it was worth it.... I don't believe that anything else would have worked, do you???
